Description

Neat! A game! Yeah, it's just "Reversi" again, but this one has the ability to bite back. In fact, it's pretty good at kicking me. Originally written for Artificial Intelligence, I got a few more ideas put into it, and this is the result. Most of the menus are self explanatory. Enjoy, and good luck beating it!

History

  • 4/7/99 - Version 1.0 released.

Known Bugs

  • Move list is a little funny at times. Go Windows.
  • Window will not refresh while AI is "thinking."
  • If you set the AI level above 12ish, be prepared to wait and have your memory get eaten. At 60, the AI will solve the entire game, with every possible move. This is a bad thing, but is here for the computers of the future.

Future Additions

  • Worker thread for MakeAIMove(), so the window will refresh.
  • Some good graphics, maybe even animations.
  • A slider for k_depth, and some better descriptions.
  • An edit box for the AI info, so you can see what the AI is doing during it's "thinking" stage.
  • Some actual help.
  • Save game ability, network game ability.

I beat it with difficulty, at level 6, and am looking to find out how to set it higher. Good game for so little memory - thanks, Peter Bond

Under the "Options" menu, select "Oxygen Config". The "k_depth" is the how many moves in the future the AI looks to make its next move. You can set it as high as you like, but higher settings will appear to freeze your computer as the AI will calculate many different board states. Also, the AI seems to do better when the k_depth is an even number. I suggest moving it up slowly by 2's (ie: 6, 8, 10, 12, ...) until you cannot compete.

wow. i LOVE the AI options. my wife is AWESOME at this game, and she only beats the computer (at default config) about half the time. of course, I messed up the values on the board to ENCOURAGE unwise moves, but still lost dismally. thx for the great game.

I am sorry, I can beat the computer 52-12 at level 6 easily, I am 1450+ at www.kurnik.org, so it is not a very dificult oponent.
